¡La Comisión de Artes de Santa Cruz busca Poesía en Español para el Proyecto del Camino Ferrocarril Concurso de Poesía!

Le estamos poniendo en contacto como poeta-español para hablar o bilingüe o representante de la comunidad.

La Comisión de Artes de Santa Cruz está planeando tener la poesía estampadas en el concreto en las rampas de acceso para discapacitados y bordillos a lo largo de la ruta del ferrocarril que pronto se construirá en Santa Cruz. En este momento estamos buscando específicamente poemas en español. (Ya tenemos algunos en Inglés).

Estamos buscando unos 10 poemas que son entre 14-17 palabras y 2 poemas más largos que podrían ser alrededor de 30-40 palabras. Podríamos tener una en inglés y otra en español o mostrarlos juntos - una versión en inglés y español - diciendo lo mismo - y en ese caso tendrían que ser un poco menos de 40 palabras.

En este momento tenemos poemas en Inglés y muchos de referencia al mar o ferrocarriles. Nos encantaría poemas adicionales en español que inspiran alegría, curiosidad o la imaginación; celebrar el vecindario(s) del lado oeste de la ciudad; perspectivas de los jóvenes; patrimonio cultural y/o la historia de Santa Cruz.

Nota: NO vamos a incluir el nombre del autor o el nombre del grupo con el poema cuando sea estampado en el concreto, sólo el poema; pero se le notificará si su poema fue seleccionado y será identificado en una variedad de comunicaciones y a la prensa.

Santa Cruz Arts Commission Seeks Spanish Language Poetry for Rail Trail Poetry Contest!

We are contacting you as a Spanish-speaking or bi-lingual poet or community advocate.

The Santa Cruz Arts Commission is planning to have poetry stamped in the concrete at ADA ramps and curbs along the soon-to-be-constructed Rail Trail in Santa Cruz. At this time we are specifically seeking poems in Spanish. (We already have some in English.)

We are seeking about 10 poems that are 14-17 words and 2 longer poems that could be about 30-40 words. We could have one in English and one in Spanish or display them together – so an English and Spanish version – saying the same thing – and in that case they would need to be slightly shorter than 40 words.

Right now we have poems in English and many reference the ocean, sea or railroad tracks. We would love additional poems in Spanish that inspire delight, curiosity or imagination; celebrate the west side neighborhood(s); youth perspectives; cultural heritage and/or Santa Cruz history.

Note: We will NOT include the author's name or group name with the poem when stamped in the concrete- only the poem - but you will be notified if your poem is selected and identified in a variety of communications and media.

Question about public art planning for the trail can be directed to Beth Tobey, Arts Program Manager City of Santa Cruz 831-420-5154 Btobey @CityofSantaCruz.com Rail Trail Project Background: The Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Network is a 50-mile bicycle and pedestrian pathway along the coast of Santa Cruz County, from the San Mateo County line in the north to the Monterey County line at Pajaro. The system’s “spine” will be the Coastal Rail Trail within the 32-mile Santa Cruz Branch rail right-of-way, alongside the existing train tracks and coexisting with potential future train service.

The first phase of the Rail Trail in Santa Cruz, proposed for construction in 2018 by the City of Santa Cruz Public Works Department, will span from Natural Bridges through the Circles neighborhood to the Wharf Roundabout. Planning for public art along the trail is a project of Santa Cruz City Arts and will result in a “Public Art Opportunities Master Plan.” The City of Santa Cruz has a 7-person Arts Commission and these appointed volunteers are highly involved in this effort. Once this plan is complete, staff will seek grants and other funds for installing public art along the trail.
