SCRAP-What we did in 2017. What's next?

Our third SCRAP exhibition will be held at the R. Blitzer Gallery through February 2018–Opening night is Friday 2nd from 5:00 - 9:00pm. This year will see the addition of spoken talent with either word or poetry presented at both opening night and our artists talk on Saturday February 17th at 12:00pm. The talk is a family friendly event, come enjoy beverages and snacks, meet the artists and hear interesting and informative talks on what’s happening with all your discarded stuff.

Commercial Cannabis Regulations Approved for the New Year

On November 28, 2017, the Santa Cruz City Council adopted Cannabis Regulations to allow for commercial cannabis uses.

Kids jump for joy at SCOPE park mural celebration!

On November 19th the Santa Cruz Arts Commission and Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department celebrated a new mural at SCOPE Park titled "Jump In!" by Sarah Bianco. The mural features local children jumping in a variety of poses along the Santa Cruz shoreline.

Bianco’s mural, entitled “Jump In!”, is inspired by the passion and energy of the people of Santa Cruz. Its lively color scheme and playful subject matter is sure to bring, in Bianco’s words, “brightness” and “life” to the downtown area. “Jump In!” also has a message of inclusivity, encouraging everyone who sees it to go after what they want in life wholeheartedly.

The Santa Cruz Arts Commission invite you to meet the artists behind two new sculptures downtown Santa Cruz! Come by at 5:30pm to view the new work "Drop of Ocean" by Kirk McNeill in front of Pacific Trading Co. and then at 6:30pm in front of New Leaf to view "Regenerosity in Five Movements" by Sean Monaghan for the second meet n' greet!

New mural at SCOPE Park - ready to Jump In! to painting in September

A new mural by artist Sarah Bianco will soon grace SCOPE Park downtown Santa Cruz - inspired by the openness of children and of dissolving boundaries.

Video from the Farewell Party for "Moonlight Dance" mural downtown at SCOPE Park

On July 15, 2017 the City of Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Arts Commission bid farewell to the 1993 mural Moonlight Dance located at SCOPE Park- with the artist Peter Bartczak and several folks used as models in the mural. See the full video of the event here!

Call for Poetry! Get your poem in concrete as part of the Rail Trail project!

Get your poem set in concrete as part of the Santa Cruz Rail Trail Project! Submit a poem that is 7-12 words in length for our Rail Trail poetry contest! Twenty nine poems will be selected for stamping in the ADA ramps and other sidewalks along the trail being constructed in 2018.
