Projects:

Abbott Square

Project Lead

Project Overview: Abbott Square, the outdoor plaza adjacent to the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (MAH) was transformed into an inviting and interactive space where families and friends can enjoy food and beverages, art installations, an outdoor lounge atmosphere, and a community gathering place.

In October 2011, the Santa Cruz City Council unanimously supported a partnership with the MAH to rebuild Abbott Square, with the goal of creating a family-friendly town square that links the creative energy of the MAH to the greater Downtown.

Now complete, Abbott Square Market is a community gathering spot, food hall, and entertainment venue - all in one. Visitors will enjoy six distinct micro-restaurants and two bars – one specializing in local craft beers and regional small batch wines on tap, and one focused solely on craft cocktails where mixologists hand-craft drinks featuring fruits and herbs sourced from artisans in and around Santa Cruz. Abbott Square also hosts weekly music performances and community focused events in the plaza and the space becomes an extension of the museum for large scale installations and events.
